Working across a variety of media, Trent Regner creates narrative-driven artworks that explore storytelling within the picture plane.

Though this goal has manifested in his work in many ways, he has recently focused on creating paintings and block prints centered on American folktales and stories. Having grown up with these tales and the folk songs inspired by them, he has developed a deep appreciation for the narratives and the lessons they carry. Themes of freedom, generosity, loss, perseverance, and temptation remain timeless, and he invites viewers to consider how these stories continue to resonate in contemporary life.

Looking ahead, he plans to create a series of linoleum prints centered on animal-based fables, using their allegorical narratives to address contemporary issues. The first piece, The Wolf and the House Dog, based on an Aesop fable, explores the idea that no comfort is worth sacrificing one’s liberty. Through this series, he hopes to demonstrate how these classic stories continue to offer meaningful insight into present-day issues.
